How to save money
23andMe's services are discounted frequently, so you should avoid paying the full amount if at all possible. You can find sales at different times of the year, like Black Friday - either through the 23andMe site, or from retailers that sell their kits, such as Amazon. Sales can easily bring the DNA + Health kits down to 50% off.
If you can't get a discount, but don't need the health data, you can save some money by electing to only use 23andMe's ancestry services. The option to upgrade and include health data is recommended, but you can always do it later for an extra fee.
Be careful about buying cheap 23andMe kits for only $20-$30 from retailers like Walmart. The low price might seem enticing, but it only covers the saliva collection kit, which is worthless by itself. For the service to be usable you'll still have to shell out a lot more money to cover the lab services that do your DNA analysis. Using these kits also makes it hard to use the best coupons/sales that give the biggest discounts.
